Description

The Spanish team is about ready to publish the translated Genetics Dictionary. We would like to know whether it is okay to just make the terms publishable, or Cancer.gov needs to make changes in preparation for publishing the Spanish dictionary for the first time.

Part of this will include updating the Spanish information architecture to match English. Currently, English has a mini landing page with subpages for each dictionary. We need Spanish translations for the following URLs:

As a result of the new IA, the terms in the Spanish Dictionary of Cancer Terms (Diccionario de cáncer del NCI) will have new URLs and need redirects, programmatically done through an Akamai rule.

As discussed in last week's meeting the dictionary API is being developed right now.  The new Spanish dictionary will need to be part of that effort rather then setting up a new dictionary within the current/old environment.

I've made the term "gene" publishable on DEV after adding a Spanish HP definition.  Then I published the term and can confirm that the definition has been published to the genetics-ES glossary, meaning Spanish genetics terms are now included in the glossary.  I do not know what needs to be done in order to have those dictionary terms available on a search page, for instance.

I will check with Blair and/or Lindsay on this.

Based on a discussion with Victoria Sun, I've created a digital platform ticket to setup the Spanish Genetics dictionary:

,

I've updated the ticket description to include some details about the information architecture updates. With the new dictionary, we will update the Spanish architecture to match English. To do so, we need Spanish translations for the following URLs:

I have attached the Spanish Translations for the 3 landing pages above. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Hi  - I know it's been awhile. Our team is testing out redirects, but we still need the URLs I asked for in my above comment. I've created a new spreadsheet and highlighted the cells that need your input.

As a reminder, we will be translating NCI's Dictionary of Cancer Terms listing page in Drupal. To mirror the information architecture of English, the two Spanish dictionaries will be subpages to this listing page. This means the current Spanish Dictionary of Cancer Terms (https://www.cancer.gov/espanol/publicaciones/diccionario) will need to move down a level. We will create programmatic redirects for this and all of the individual Spanish term pages. We are working on testing the redirect process on a development tier now. Once the Spanish dictionary of cancer terms moves down a level, the new Spanish Genetics dictionary will live at this same level, with all pages mirroring the English structure.

Hi Thanks for the information and all your hard work on this. I have attached the spreadsheet with the completed translations. Please see a note from Linda below:

"The translation I used for the Dictionary of Cancer Terms URL doesn´t correspond to the end of the English URL (/cancer-terms). I believe it should follow the same format as the one used for the genetics dictionary (/genetics-dictionary) and also the titles we are using for these dictionaries do not include the word “terms” in the title."

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Since the dictionary is live now and the reported issues have been addressed, I am closing this ticket. We still have a large number of audios pending that we expect to publish by the end of the week. I will report any issues that come up in the appropriate tickets.
