Hi Bob ~bkline The check spelling while typing feature in XMetal isn't working for one user and reinstalling XMetal did not work. I will set up a Teams session so you can take a look.
Handing this off to ~volker.
Another piece of information: The User Word List window does not pop up for this user but it does for everyone.
Question 1:
Is the user able to check spelling?
Question 2:
What is the locale of the user's machine? (Open a command prompt; type
"systeminfo"; look at the lines "System Locale" and "Input Locale")
Question 3:
Could you also send me a screenshot of the "Main Word Lists" window?
Question 4:
Is the user typing English or Spanish?
Question 5:
Is the location C:\ the typical location for temp files as specified on
the "General" tab?
Question 6:
Is the option "Replace words from my word list while typing"
working as expected?
I have attached the system info screenshot with the System and Infor
locales. The user is able to check spelling by running the spellchecker
and the incorrect words are correctly checked. The only problem is that
the squiggly line that tells a user a worded is spelled wrong is not
displaying for the user.
I found a suggestion on how to fix a broken spell checker on the XMetaL forum:
To reinstall and make sure all the spell checking files are rewritten (in case something is missing or broken) you can try this:
1. Uninstall.
2. Delete this entire folder if it exists (that's where the spell checker lives):
C:Program Files (x86)CorelSharedXMetaLWriting Tools
3. Install.
~oseipokuw, you had said you did try to re-install XMetaL. I'm wondering if you deleted the XMetaL folder prior to the re-install. I wouldn't have thought for that to be necessary but it might be worth another try.
No, I couldn't confirm that the "Replace words from my word list while typing" is working.
The User is typing English.
The typical location of the temp file is below. What I posted initially was from my laptop as I was trying to troubleshoot the problem.
So far, the summary is that everything is working properly for this user except for the two "... while typing" options.
This indicates to me that we're not dealing with a permission problem (user can't access the dictionary files) and the work-around would be to use the spell checker separately for now. I will look at the XMetaL forums to find out what else we could try.
Jessica received her new laptop. CDR is installed and there is no issue with the Check Spelling while typing function.
This will be our new technique for fixing odd XMetaL issues going forward: Install XMetaL on a new laptop. 🙂
I'm glad to hear that the issue has gone away!!!
