I am attaching the Stedman's installation files to this ticket.
I've extracted the *.exe file from the ZIP but I don't have permissions to run the file on my developer VM or my Parallels Windows installation. I will have to submit a CBIIT ticket for them to give me the permissions or to extract the dictionary files for us.
Ticket #5000!
Does the attached tar file help, ~volker?
Got that strange "Communications Breakdown" error message from Jira until I removed the "ta-da" character. 🙁
How did you get that? The content of the tar file is all we need.
That makes sense - Jira doesn't handle the "ta-da" nearly as well as it does the "oh-no". 🙂
I installed XMetaL on my local Windows 10 desktop box, then ran the two Stedman installers. When those installers asked which application I was using I answered "XMetaL" and when they asked which version I was using I said 11 (9 wasn't an option), and they installed the files (apparently without checking which version of XMetaL I have on the machine).
Are you telling me you lied to get what you wanted? Good work. 😃
~oseipokuw, the tar file that Bob attached does contain those three dictionary *.LEX files needed for the Stedman's upgrade. I believe all that you have to do is to replace those files with the existing *.LEX files.
In case you're having trouble to extract the files I'm attaching the documents to this ticket as well.
I have great news! Replacing the .Lex files with the current ones worked. Thanks a lot!
A fitting conclusion for ticket #5000!
It's great news, indeed. However, we still want to get the new dictionary files to ~mbeckwit group.
Do we have enough licenses for everyone or will we need additional copies?
~oseipokuw, would you happen to have a test word I could use for testing the new dictionary?
Use the words “remdesivir” and “Veklury” to ensure Stedman’s Plus 2021 has been installed properly. Simply type “remdesevir” and “Viklury” (incorrect versions of the above words) and spellcheck your document. Your spellchecker should highlight these words and will suggest the correct words “remdesivir” and “Veklury” from the Stedman’s Plus 2021 dictionary file.
I found another one: hydroxychloroquine. 🙂
~vshields helped me to test the dictionary setup for the board managers. Provided we have the right number of licenses this is what we will have to do in order to add the new dictionary to everyone's machine:
Start XMetaL
Load a document
Start the spellchecker (Tools --> Spell Checker... or press F7)
On the "Writing Tools" pop-up window select the "Spell Checker" tab and click "Options"
Select "Main Word Lists..."
Click "Add List..."
Navigate to the directory on the L-drive
L:\OCPL_Cross\CDR\STEDMANS
and select one of the *.lex files (GENERIC, STEDMANS, or TRADE)
Click "Open"
Repeat the "Add List..." steps for the other two *.lex files
Close the pop-up windows
You are now using the latest Stedman's Medical Dictionary.
Users who already have a dictionary loaded that is located in a different directory may want to disable that dictionary or remove from the list.
We want to discuss if we are OK with this network location for everyone.
The only drawback I see with this approach - other than network drive unavailable - is that we could only update these files after everyone has closed XMetaL. Since we only update the dictionary once a year or two that is not a big deal.
15 licenses were acquired and I think they were for CIAT. I can ask Tabatha to acquire additional licenses. How many more licenses do we need? I also learned that the vendor is writing a patch to address support for XMetal 9.0 which will be made available this week.
I am attaching the user guide here. There is a process called
chaining (page 18) which is performed on each of the installations and
the .lex files need to be selected in a set order: TRADE.LEX,
STEDMANS.LEX,
GENERIC.LEX.
Stedmans_Plus_2021_Users_Guide.pdf
Also, the installation needs to be repeated for Office 365, which currently works without any problems.
I have downloaded the new installation files provided by the vendor and it does include support for XMetal 9.0 now.
As I pointed out in one of my comments above, we also install the spellchecker for office 365. So, while the workaround is good for XMetal, we still need to run the installation program so the spellchecker can work with Office 365.
~volker You may download the new installation files from the same account to make it available to PCIB staff. They just replaced the old files with the new ones.
As Bob requested, here is the UNC path to the network folder holding the Stedman's dictionary files:
nciis-p401.nci.nih.gov\Group03\OCPL\OCPL_Cross\CDR\STEDMANS
Please check if you can access this location, ~oseipokuw.
Yes, I am able to access the folder so we should be able to replace
the local folder on each laptop with a new path pointing to the folder
at
nciis-p401.nci.nih.gov\Group03\OCPL\OCPL_Cross\CDR\STEDMANS. This is a
better approach since we do not have to repeat this process each time
there is an upgrade.
I am attaching the two installation instructions to this ticket. I have already uploaded them to the STEDMAN'S folder on the L: Drive. Please feel free to update/correct/add etc. to the files on the L: Drive. I will leave this ticket open until after the CDR/EBMS meeting on Thursday as I have a question about a medical spellchecker for the Spanish content.
According to Tabatha, new licenses were acquired for the board managers on 9/10/2021. So, it looks like we should be able to get Stedman's working for all the board managers and then close this ticket.
I am closing this ticket since the board managers now have their licenses and I have confirmed that it works for Robin Baldwin. I will work with the other board managers to ensure that Stedman's is working on their laptops.
