Description

External links (external to NCI's website) in English summaries are currently followed by a red X and a message in Spanish ("Notificacion de salida") in Publish Preview. This seems to be appearing in place of the usual arrow icon that appears after external (non-NCI) links on Cancer.gov. As far as I know this isn't happening on Cancer.gov, but just in PP.

I will attach a screenshot with an example.

Just as a side hint - if you pick the issue's component when you file a JIRA ticket, you have a better chance of the issue being assigned to the right developer for that component. :-)

Sorry! I always forget to do that. Just added the component. Thanks.

I'll do my best to figure out what's going on, though I'm not the expert on publish preview. When did this start happening?

Thanks, Bob. I first noticed it on Friday, 1/9 (using Firefox on my desktop, outside of the Bastion host), but I don't think I published anything for a couple of weeks before that (over the holidays), so I can't say for sure when it started.

I spoke with the WCMS team, and they said the conditions which result in this problem have been in place for several years (the links are not actually present in the HTML which Volker's code processes, but are instead injected into the document by Javascript after it hits your browser, so he can't make them point to the right server in his post processing). The whole mechanism will be replaced anyway when the new version of cancer.gov comes out, so they decided it makes most sense to come up with solutions to the problems presented by the new site instead of the current conditions which will go away (this problem is cosmetic, as what you're seeing is the broken link for the little icon which indicates that the link takes you to an external site.

I did file a ticket with the WCMS team anyway.

Thanks for investigating and reporting this. I know that we haven’t been seeing the error messages for long (they’re really obvious), but it sounds like it makes sense to hold off on making any fixes.
