We've started getting the "Failure Reading Byte Count" error message while loading audio files from board meetings. The files are between 100MB TO 170MB per recording.
How long are the recordings (listening duration) and what level of compression is being used?
Also, when were the attempts being made to store the files? (You're aware that it's futile to expect to get any serious work done on CBIIT computers later in the day on Friday, right?)
The problem appears to be related to the size of the files. I tried a smaller file and it worked without any problem while the bigger files continue to fail. I will re-compress to smaller files and upload to see if it works.
What level of compression was used for the larger files?
Are you referring to the sample rate? It is hard for me to tell because I am using a loaner laptop that I just downloaded Audacity on so it looks like I was using whatever the default was. On my own laptop (which crashed last week), I had the rate set already so I didn't have to set it per file. I am currently setting the sample rate at 1600 which makes the files significantly smaller.
Please refer to https://tracker.nci.nih.gov/browse/OCECDR-3091 where you'll find documentation of the extensive experimentation we performed to establish the compression rate to be used for these recordings, just so we wouldn't run into this problem.
Thanks for the link.
I am closing this issue now.
