I would like to create this issue so that we can discuss it at this afternoon's meeting.
Below is an email from one of the vendors (forwarded to me by Volker)
"One of our developers noticed an issue with several of the Spanish NCI documents missing alt-text in the image path. I am listing the IDs and an example of the missing alt-txt.
CDR256672 - <MediaLink ref="CDR0000466537" type="image/jpeg"
alt="" language="es" thumb="Yes" id="_48502" size="sixth" />
CDR256687 -
CDR256695
CDR256711
"
Would it be possible to implement some kind of a restraint so that when it (the above error) happens, users would be prompted to correct it before creating a publishable version of the document ?

We've decided at our status meeting that we will modify the vendor filters to detect empty alt attributes for the MediaLink and report a warning message. The warning message will provide the notification for the users to update/create the description element for the particular audience/language as needed.

The filter has been updated to include a warning message in the
publishing error report if a MediaLink has been detected with an empty
ALT attribute:
MediaLink (CDR668855)
ALT attribute of MediaLink element is empty.
The updated filter is
CDR315588 - Module: Vendor Cleanup Templates
I'm currently running a test run on MAHLER.

The second publishing job finished successfully on FRANCK (after the problems of the first try had been resolved) and correctly identified three summaries in the error report with empty ALT attributes in the MediaLink element.

The test publishing jobs on FRANCK finished successfully. No differences in the output and the error report correctly identifies images without ALT attribute.

As discussed at our last status meeting the filter to create a
warning message for missing ALT tags has been copied to
production:
CDR315588 - Module: Vendor Cleanup Templates - R10389
Please verify on BACH and close this bug.

Can I close this until there is another missing alt attribute issue?
It seems to
me there is not better way of testing this without purposefully creating
the problem on Bach.

I would wait until Monday because, presumably, only the weekend
publishing job that's processing all of the summaries will trigger the
new message.
If there isn't any 'missing alt tag' warning I would agree with you to
close it after Monday.

The report correctly identified summaries with missing alt attributes. Closing issue now. Thanks!
