When we import citations (especially when fast tracking) we would like to be able to link directly from the import citations page to the full citation page to be able to immediately act on that citation. We currently have to go back to search for the citation that we just imported.
We will need to discuss this issue with the medical librarians to come up with a solution that works for all of us. For example, I'm not sure if we could just replace the PubMed link with one to the full citation page or if both are needed.
Have you had the discussions with the librarians? Did they say that it's OK to replace the Pubmed link with the "full citation page" link in cases where appropriate (since on the latter page there's an easily accessible link back to Pubmed)? We'll need some analysis to determine what to do in those sections of the STATISTICS report which don't have an EBMS ID (that would probably only be the "ARTICLES WITH ERRORS").
Cynthia and Minaxi, I've added you as watchers to this issue so that you can weigh in.
After importing a citation (e.g., when fast-tracking), we would like the import page to contain a link to the full citation page for the article. Could the PMID link directly to the full citation page, or do you need to also have a link to refer back to PubMed? As Bob mentions, the full citation page has a link back to PubMed for the citation.
Bear in mind that if we need to have two links per article (one to Pubmed and one to the full citation page), we'll lose the ability to put lots of IDs on a single line.
Cynthia and Minaxi, could you please comment on this issue? We would like to add a link to the full citation from the import citations page, and we're wondering if we can just link the PMID directly to the full citation page. Please let us know if that would pose a problem for you. Thanks.
We librarians need the link directly to pubmed, otherwise you are adding an extra step for us and making it harder for us to get back and forth to the import page for import QC. I recommend having a link to both to meet both needs. One that goes directly to pubmed from the import page (as the system currently provides) and another new link that goes directly to the full citation page. This may cause formatting issues, but I think functionality wins out over design.
Thanks for responding, Cynthia.
Bob, we'd like to include a link to both the full citation and PubMed from the import page, despite the fact that this will mean fewer citations can fit on a single line. Thanks.
Implemented on DEV; ready for user review. I implemented it as compactly as I could, showing the EBMS ID in parentheses (when present) as the display text for the link to the "Full Citation" page. This way I was able to get almost as many articles per line as before.
This looks good on DEV. My only concern is that once I click on the embs id link I have to use the back button to get back to the import report. Right now on DEV the back button takes me to the security warning page and then when I click continue I end up back on the full citation page and not back to the import report. So without the security warning page, will the back button take me back to the import report? or do we need to add a "Return to Rport" link?
I deliberately had the link to the "Full Citation" page open a new tab so you wouldn't have this problem. Have you modified the settings in your browser so that this functionality is defeated? (You can ignore the security warning - that's the result of CBIIT's being too cheap to pay for real certificates for the lower tiers).
Sorry now I see that it is in fact opening a new browser window. The
security warnings were making it tedious to see.
I have no further concern. This looks good to me. Minaxi is out today,
but I am sure she too will be happy with the report.
