Description

Crystal and I would both like to remove a couple of cancelled meetings from the

calendar, but the published check box is not there to uncheck. See example below from the EBMS help manual. Is this something that can be added back in easily? Thanks.

It's not clear to me why this is marked as a "bug" given that OCEEBMS-774 requested that the Published field be removed.

I have changed it to "Improvement".  I also reattached the original image as it was displaying for probably because of Jira was acting up.

Adding offline comments from Robin J.

Hi William and Bob,

Robin and Crystal raised an issue in the EBMS that I wanted to share with you both. I understand Robin B put in a JIRA ticket but I wanted to provide some context and screenshots here as well.

They are each trying to remove a calendar appointment from the calendar since they each have a Board meeting is no longer scheduled to take place. They are able to cancel the appointment, and it shows up on the calendar as “cancelled” but it still shows up elsewhere in the system, like under the alerts section in the screenshot below without any indication of its cancelled status.

The first question I have is whether it’s currently possible to remove a calendar event. We used to have this ability in the old system, but I’m guessing we decided that wasn’t needed any longer? If we do not have this capability now, how hard would this be to do? Would this functionality require a release?

Next, if this would require a fair amount of work and/or wouldn’t be available for awhile, I think we should consider how to change the display of “cancelled” meetings, perhaps including a strike through and including the word “cancelled” everywhere the meeting is displayed, including on the alerts page as shown below.

I won’t be at the CDR/EBMS meeting on Thursday since I’m attending Wendy’s funeral, so I wanted to get this explanation to you via email in the meantime.

Thanks,

Robin

From email thread.

The first question I have is whether it’s currently possible to remove a calendar event. We used to have this ability in the old system, but I’m guessing we decided that wasn’t needed any longer? If we do not have this capability now, how hard would this be to do? Would this functionality require a release?

The Published field was removed from the form at Victoria's request in OCEEBMS-774 (presumably following consultation with the other board members, given the language "We'd like to go with #4 and eliminate the field."), so no, it's not currently possible to remove a meeting from the calendar. It would take a day or two to restore the field and its functionality, and yes, it would require a release.

Next, if this would require a fair amount of work and/or wouldn’t be available for awhile, I think we should consider how to change the display of “cancelled” meetings, perhaps including a strike through and including the word “cancelled” everywhere the meeting is displayed, including on the alerts page as shown below.

The display of a canceled meeting on the calendar itself uses opacity to dim the background of the block for the meeting, and adds " (canceled)" to the name of the meeting. If the user clicks on the link for the meeting there is no indication that the meeting has been canceled. It would be possible to add " (canceled)" to the end of the title display on that page. It might also be possible to add strike-through to the title, though that's would require some investigation to confirm. The logic for finding the next meeting for the Alerts block on the home page does not take into account the Canceled field, but that would be a straightforward enhancement to make. All of these modifications would require a release, and changes to the handling of the Canceled field should be in a separate ticket from the changes to be made for the Published field.

We discussed this issue in the 8/1/24 CDR EBMS meeting. The following is a summary of the decisions made:

  1. Add "(canceled)" to the end of the meeting name on the page for displaying a single canceled meeting.

  2.  Possibly add strike-through to the title.

  3.  Logic for finding the next meeting to be updated to take into consideration the Canceled field.

  4.   Modify the logic to filter out canceled meetings from the Calendar page's "Upcoming Meetings" list.

  5. Robin and Victoria to meet and decide on whether there is still the need to restore the published button or not.

Please let me know if I am missing anything else. Thanks!

Hello! Robin and I discussed this and we'd like to move forward with numbers 1 thorough 4 above. We do not think we need to do 5 at this time. Thanks!

I have implemented #1, #3, and #4 and installed the changes on EBMS DEV. There was no clean way to change the display of the page title to add strike-through.
