Would it be possible to add an option to the Import Internal Articles page to import a batch of citations using a text file like what we currently have available on the regular Import page?
Note: This is a wish list item for the backlog.
How frequently would such an enhancement be used? And what would be a rough approximation of the number of articles to be imported in an average batch, if you had to make a wild guess?
Currently we import internal articles quarterly for selected topics.
Our regular quarterly imports average probably 10-30 articles per topic. And as new topics are searched (2 this year) or searches are requested (1 this year), larger batches of articles are imported, maybe 50-80 articles per topic.
Individual or small batches (2-3articles) of Internal articles are also imported/tagged sporadically by both libs and bms as identified.
We usually import 10 pmids at a time because of the character limit and just to make it easier to keep track of what is getting imported.
Use of Internal Articles has increased over the years and will likely continue.

Good to know. When they were first introduced, the projections we were given were for much lower numbers.
When the Internal Articles feature was added we were not running regular searches on any of the topics. And in addition, this feature's use has evolved.
To answer your original question: yes, this enhancement would be possible. My best guess, without having dug into the details, is that it would take between three to five working days. So over to you, ~vshields, to make the call about whether to add this to the next release.
Oh that's a good chunk of time. I do think that removing the character limit from the pmid field (ticket 801) will suffice for now. Victoria and I should discuss the Internal Articles feature and its future before we make this "wish list" investment.
I may have been able to implement this in well under the original estimate. Try it out on DEV. I've got it in a separate branch, so we can easily back it out if you uncover anything serious that I missed which might put us back into multi-day territory.
This seems to be working well. I imported several files successfully and then displayed the internal articles in different ways, retrieved selected articles in different ways, added topics, etc. ...everything seems fine so far.
tested and verified on qa
Verified on PROD. Thanks!
