Bonnie reported that she is having problems printing a complete packet/job. The job often times out (she gets a timeout error message in the command prompt window) after printing the summaries and before printing the articles and coversheets. She is able to retrieve the articles and coversheets on her computer and print them manually.
She recently had this problem with print jobs 188 and 189, as a couple of examples.
Bonnie ran two more print jobs today and each of them printed successfully. She then re-ran either print job 188 or 189 (the ones that caused problems yesterday) and it also completed successfully. So, I'm guessing it may have been a problem with the printer? In any case, since it's working OK now, I'm going to close this ticket and we'll open a new one if this happens again.
I'm back from vacation and saw the email from this issue in my backlog.
I checked the client software that sends files to the printer. It's configured to timeout after three minutes on all commands to print a document that it sends to Windows. If we think that is not enough, I can modify it to wait longer (an easy task), or better, modify it to have a default of 3 minutes but read a timeout parameter in the config file that overrides the default.
However if this only happened during one time period, it sounds like it was a network or printer problem and, if so, increasing the timeout might not have done anything but cause it to wait longer before reporting that it didn't work. So I agree that we should do nothing unless it happens again.
