Description

Cynthia reported that her queue is not loading. After much churning, she gets a "page cannot be displayed" 500 error.

Added Cynthia & Minaxi to this issue.

I'm working on this problem, almost exclusively. Progress is slow. I'm unable to reproduce the problem on any other tier than PROD, where I can reproduce it every time. Best clue I have so far is that the size of the "ready for initial review" queue on PROD is almost an order of magnitude larger than the next biggest contender on the lower tiers:

PROD: 2,185
STAGE: 0
QA: 269
DEV: 674

I'm going to try and get the size of the queue on DEV to match that on PROD and see if that triggers the failure.

It would be useful to know if the size of the "ready-for-initial-review" queue grew significantly on PROD very recently. And I'm assuming that if this problem had occurred before today on PROD you'd have told me, right?

Correction to the previous comment. The queue is almost an order of magnitude larger on PROD than on QA. It's bigger than on DEV, too, but not by that much.

Note: This need to handle 4 or maybe even 5K citations. Most months we have 3500-4000 citations in the queue initially.

Thanks, Cynthia. That's a useful data point.

I believe I have tracked down the problem to the ITEMS PER PAGE option on the queue page, which is now defaulting to "View All." The server just can't handle creating all the fields for hundreds (or thousands) of articles at once. I have set the default to 50 for the librarians' accounts. The board manager queues don't tend to be as large, but I recommend that they set their default to 50 (or lower) as well.

We'll need to change the software to eliminate the "View All" option, which will require a patch that we'll have to coordinate with CBIIT. In the meantime, please don't use that option. :-)

Cynthia: Can you confirm that you can get to your queue now on PROD?

Yes, I can now see my queue. It is showing 50 of 2185. Previously, our default count was 10 per page. I would prefer 10 or 20 not 50.
Thanks! Good job finding the bug!

And I will not use the view all 🙂

You can set it to 10 (or 25) yourself and click SAVE AS DEFAULT to have the preference remembered.

Yes, that's right. I will do that. Thanks!

Hopefully, a single solution will fix issues 255 and 299.

Removed the option to suppress paging of the citation review queue (it chokes the server).

Testing...View All is no longer an option in the Display Options and can not be set as default. Changes look good.
