Lakshmi has requested to always notify our content partners in the
event of a delay of updating our XML data and in case we have to skip a
week of publishing (i.e. due to a major WCMS release).
There is currently no system in place allowing us to submit such a
notification without having to involve CBIIT before and after such an
event.
The ticket to create a status page on the Cancer.gov website is related to this request.
Erika recommends removing from Darwin. Requires review of how these emails should be sent out.
The SendEmail.py program used to notify our partners has an option to specify a special memo file to be submitted. Since we now storing the partner contact information in the CDR a work-around to the original request could be to
refresh the CDR database on QA
create the memo file on QA and
submit the notification similarly to the weekly notification.
In order for this to work the SendEmail.py would need to be modified slightly (the current version does not allow to submit a notification to CDR partners from a lower tier) and the option for submitting a different message would need to be tested.
The alternative would be to send a notification by hand to around 80 partners.
~bkline, before you're
trying to grab this ticket from me I rather add a comment. :-)
As part of the eDir account conversion I had to send bulk emails a
couple of times to our PDQ content partners. This was done manually from
the NCI Content Dissemination email account. I've created an ad-hoc
query to extract the email addresses from the CDR in order to copy/paste
those addresses to the BCC field of the email messages. This process was
reasonably painless.
Considering that we're rarely (not more than 2-4 times a year) sending
messages to all of our content partners I believe the manual process
works well enough and we shouldn't invest too much time into building
another email system. I'd suggest to mark this ticket as Won't
Fix.
We could possibly add a button to the partner maintenance pages to create the list of active email addresses for when we have another mailing go out but again, getting that list from the query reports page works fine, too.
Would you agree we should cancel this ticket?
Since you're our PDQ Partner go-to guy, I defer to your judgement. :-)
