Description

We would like to revise the summary suggested citation format that appears in the About This PDQ Summary section to include the Editorial Board (who we are calling the "author" of the summary) and the PMID.

We will post an example of how we'd like it to look with this information once we have a chance to discuss.

Awaiting additional information

Here's the citation format we would like to use:

PDQ Cancer Genetics Editorial Board. PDQ® Genetics of Kidney Cancer (Renal Cell Cancer). Bethesda, MD: National Cancer Institute. Date last modified <MM/DD/YYYY>. Available at: http://www.cancer.gov/types/kidney/hp/kidney-genetics-pdq. Accessed <MM/DD/YYYY>. [PMID: 12345678]

The Editorial Board name should be taken from the "PDQ Board" element in the summary metadata (I think this is how it is identified in the vendor filter too). The PMID (in brackets) should be taken from the new PMID element in the summary metadata.

Thanks!

The following filter has been modified and the changes are ready for review on DEV (after adding the PMID):

  • CDR000157.xml: Vendor Filter: Summary

Note: I've added the PMID for CDR62902.

I'm looking at Pub Preview of CDR62902 on DEV, but I'm not seeing these changes. Should I be checking another way?

You'll have to look at the right time. :-)

We have the Summary Title change go out as a hot-fix before Darwin, therefore the change you "saw" was the title change instead of the Darwin citation change. I've updated the filter again to show the citation change.

This looks good on DEV, although we have one more change. Could you please change the "Date last modified <MM/DD/YYYY>" to "Updated <MM/DD/YYYY>"? This is what we call this date now on Cancer.gov. Thanks!

Are we changing the Spanish text string as well?

Comment entered 2016-03-23 18:09:54 by Englisch, Volker (NIH/NCI) [C]

I've used the same text string we're showing on the Spanish summaries: Actualización.

The following filter has been updated on DEV:

  • CDR000157.xml: Vendor Filter: Summary

You beat me to it! I was just going to suggest that. Thanks 🙂

The filter has been versioned in SVN:

  • R13809: CDR000157.xml: Vendor Filter: Summary

As discussed in today's meeting, we may not have all of the PMIDs added to the summaries in a global. Therefore, to be on the safe side, we'd like to remove the "[PMID: ]" from the suggested citation format if this value is not populated in the summary.

Comment entered 2016-03-24 18:28:02 by Englisch, Volker (NIH/NCI) [C]

The filter has been modified to only display the PMID if the PMID field is populated in the document:

  • R13811: CDR000157 - Vendor Filter: Summary

Looks good! Thanks. Verified on DEV.

Victoria noticed that we are putting the registered trademark after what is now the second PDQ in the suggested citation format rather than the first occurrence (in the "author" name). (I pasted an example of how it looks now on QA below.) Would it be possible to add the symbol after the first PDQ and remove it from the second one?

PDQ Cancer Genetics Editorial Board. PDQ® Genetics of Endocrine and Neuroendocrine Neoplasias. Bethesda, MD: National Cancer Institute. Updated <MM/DD/YYYY>. Available at: http://www-qa.cancer.gov/types/thyroid/hp/medullary-thyroid-genetics-pdq. Accessed <MM/DD/YYYY>. [PMID: 1234]
