We've discussed modifying the mechanism for importing citations from PubMed to only import the particular fields that we care about rather than the complete record. This has a couple of benefits: (1) it will save space, and (2) it will be less susceptible to import errors caused by NLM adding or making changes to a field that we don't care about.
Implemented as part of EBMS 4.0.
