Apparently when Word went to the new version we lost the ability to see PDQ images in a summary document that was converted to Word from a QC report. This feature works fine in Word 2003 but not in Word 2007. Volker was going to look into this.

Victoria allowed me to use her computer to check out a couple of
things I cannot do on my system.
First of all, Victoria is using IE6 and Word 2007. I am using IE7 and
Word 2003.
Maybe the combination of the tools might be of importance.
Secondly, I've used Victoria's machine to run a couple of QC and PP reports and converted those to Word 2007 (making sure we checked the check box to display images) and - tada! - the images display as expected.
However, when trying to convert the Google main page, the image does
not display in Word. The image placeholder displays the
text:
The linked image cannot be displayed. ...
There is a workaround though. Instead of clicking the "Edit with Word" button one could save the document to the disk. When opening this document with Word, the image will be displayed.
I believe I will have to talk to Victoria and recreate the exact same situation which resulted in the missing images. I was not able to recreate it using Summary QC reports.

I discussed this issue again with Victoria.
As mentioned earlier, when we noticed this problem we either didn't check the check box to include the image or we weren't waiting long enough for the images to be displayed in Word but the images do display for Victoria.
As mentioned earlier, this is not true for all web pages but it appears that the images within the summaries do display properly.
We agreed that we could close this issue.
Margaret: I'm not able to close this issue since you're the
reporter.
Please go ahead and close.

Oh no, I am able to close it. I just had to set the status to resolved first.
Closing issue.

It didn't take long for Victoria to find me another example for which the image isn't included when converting to Word 2007. This time I made sure that all the right check boxes were checked.
The (in progress) Merkel summary on BACH displays this problem, so I'm reopening the issue.

I have tested this on my machine using the following software:
Windows XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 2
IE Version: 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_qfe.080814-1242
Word 2007 (12.0.6331.5000) MSO (12.0.6320.5000)
[Since there is no "Help / About" in Word 2007 you have to find
the version by clicking the "Microsoft Office Button" (the big
thing in the upper left) and then click "Resources" on the left
side of the window, and look at "about Microsoft Office Word
2007" in the last list item on the main screen.
At any rate, I ran the redline-strikeout report for the
prostate
cancer HP treatment summary, and it worked for me. The four
images were all successfully imported into Word.
So something else may be involved besides just IE 6 and Word
2007.

When we run out of smart things to try, the dumb ones start
looking attractive. These are probably no better than flapping
our arms and making clucking noises, but since we've got nothing
better to try right now ...
1. Dumb try number one (this has almost certainly already been
done.)
Go to Victoria's machine.
Open IE.
Click Internet Options / Programs.
Look at "HTML edtor".
Is more than one configured? Does more than one reference
Word or Office? If so, try all of them.
2. Dumb try number 2.
Go to Victoria's machine.
cd to:
c:\Documents and Settings\Alan\Local Settings\Temporary
Internet Files
"dir /s QcReport*" to find all of them in subdirectories.
Delete every one of them.
Try editing with Word again.

In the above comment "c:\Documents and Settings\Alan" should
of course substitute Victoria's user name for mine.

I've checked on Victoria's computer. Her system setup is exactly the same as Alan's. All three versions for Windows, IE, and Word are identical to the last digit.
The new "trouble maker" summary is Merkel Cell (treatment, HP).

No, it hadn't.

There was no HTML editor specified, so I've set it to Word (even
though Word was used when converting an HTML document.
Unfortunately, the summary that Victoria gave me to try (Merkel Cell)
that didn't convert for her the last time she tried, worked fine for me
this time and I can't test if the change had any effect.
We need to continue to observe.
> 2. Dumb try number 2.
I left this alone until we have another example that allows us to test the effect of this change.

I was just about to ignore this issue when Victoria identified another event. The converted Bold/Underline report for prostate cancer doesn't include a few images.

Please ignore comment #11 and comment #12. These were cut off due to
our sophisticated intrusion detection software which determined my
comment to be a security risk. I've purposely misspelled two words to
sneak this comment in:

I am now convinced that this problem is closely related to OCECDR-2918 the bug that dropped the HP reference sections due to the URL getting to long and was therefore cut off.
The reason why I was never able to recreate the problem is probably
because I've only slected the option to display the images. Victoria,
however, most likely slected other options like 'Display Internal
Comments' or 'Display Glossary Terms' etc. which resulted the URL to get
too long with these additional options.
Of course, this problem, too, disappears once Word is already running
prior to converting the document.
Therefore, unless Victoria will be able to report this problem again despite our work-around (open MS-Word prior to converting a QC report), I will declare this problem as resolved.

We've kept this issue open for testing for around 4 years. If the image display is still an issue we should open a new ticket as versions for Word, IE, and Windows have changed since.
