For a while now, I have been experiencing the occasional import error while importing a single citation using a pmid. When this error has occurred in the past, the citation has always imported successfully upon a second try with no problems.
Over the past two weeks, I have noticed a significant increase in the frequency of this error and an increase in the number of tries it takes for the citation to finally import successfully. Note: all citations with this error to date have been imported successfully.
I usually encounter this error on Mondays between 8:30-12:30 when I run the core journal searches and am importing 30-50 citations individually; some with and some without the core journals tag. I have also encountered this error sporadically during the week when importing citations referenced in news bulletins. This Wednesday for example, I had errors for several citations and one took 4 tries to successfully import.
The following are a few import reports where the error has occurred:
52906-8, imported finally in 52909
52922-7
52887, 52882, 52875, 52866, 52854
Also, this error has occurred when importing the same citation again to add a new summary topic.
52937, 52982
NLM's servers have been misbehaving a lot lately. I reported the problems to them a couple of weeks ago, and they say they're "working on it" (without being any more forthcoming). Not sure what more we can do, short of upper NCI management weighing in, and even that has had limited success, historically. ("We're NLM. We can do whatever we want.") 😛
Yep, I am all too familiar with NLM not being very forthcoming.
