We would like to give Board members the ability to search for articles that contain a full-text PDF. The search results should be limited to articles that have an uploaded PDF. We'd like to provide them with the following search parameters:
Editorial Board
Summary Topic
PMID
Author
Author Position
Title
Journal
Publication Date
They will not see any of the other parameters under Advanced or Administrator Search.
Under Display Options, please remove the following options from the
list for Board members:
-EBMS ID
-Core Journals
-Save as Default
-Board Member Version
A few more notes:
This should be a separate tab for Board members to the left of their Literature Packets tab. It can be called "Search Citations"
In the search results, please remove the link to the Full Citation page and remove the EBMS ID.
For the story points, 20 is probably too low, but 40 is too high, and we don't have anything in between. :-) This will involve changes to Alan's back-end search classes, as well as the work to create the user interface for the search and display pages. Not as much work as it would have been if we didn't have the board manager search work behind us.
Would it make sense to also remove the legacy ID display for board members' search results?
Yes, good idea. Thanks.
I have a first cut of this installed on DEV. Ready for user testing.
This looks good! Thank you.
We have a couple of small requests.
1) Would it be possible to add a blank line to the top of the list of Boards so that a user could "cancel" their selection of a Board without resetting the form? We thought it might be helpful to include.
2) Could you please change "PM ID#" to "PMID" in the list of display options?
Is the code for the Board member search page and the internal staff search page managed in the same place? If not, I can add a separate ticket to handle those updates on the internal search page, too. (On the internal search page, we should also remove the "#" from "EBMS ID#" for consistency.) Thanks.
I have made the second change for both internal and external users (including changing "EBMS ID#" to "EBMS ID"). Standard UI design principles allow users to cancel selection of an item on multi-select list by holding down the Control button (Command button on a Mac) and clicking on the unwanted selection, and that's what Drupal is supporting here. I think adding a dummy blank option would unnecessarily complicate things.
OK, thanks for the explanation!
I think we need to add a statement about using the wildcard for our Board members. Here's what I propose:
Please revise the statement about the CTRL key to:
"To select more than one Board, hold down the CTRL or COMMAND (for Mac users) key." (add the word Board and the period at the end.)
Then, skip one blank line and add the following statement (also in italics):
"Use wildcards (%) in the Title and Journal fields to limit the results unless you know the exact article title or journal name. For example, searching “%national%cancer%institute%” in the journal field will give you any article from the Journal of the National Cancer Institute."
Do you want these clearer instructions only for board members, or should we use the same language for everyone?
Might as well use this for everyone. Thanks.
Changed on DEV. Please take a look.
Thanks, Bob. I asked Victoria to take a look as well and we have a couple tweaks, if possible:
1. In the first statement please change "Board" to "EDITORIAL BOARD"
(all caps and changed to match the title of the field).
2. In the second statement, please change "Title" and "Journal" (both
mentions, referring to the fields) to all caps as well.
Here's what it should look like:
To select more than one EDITORIAL BOARD, hold down the CTRL or COMMAND (for Mac users) key.
Use wildcards (%) in the TITLE and JOURNAL fields to limit the results unless you know the exact article title or journal name. For example, searching “%national%cancer%institute%” in the JOURNAL field will give you any article from the Journal of the National Cancer Institute.
Thank you!!
Done. Also fixed the placement of the parentheses in the first sentence to match the semantics.
Looks good! Thanks, Bob.
We reviewed this as a group today and ultimately decided that the proposed wording doesn't really give enough detail for our Board members. So, we plan to post a searching tips document on the help page. Could you please replace all of the instructional text (about selecting more than one Board and using wildcards) on the search page for all users with the following statement?
"For tips on using this search form, refer to the EBMS Help page."
The words "EBMS Help" in the above sentence should link to this page: https://ebms.nci.nih.gov/help
Thanks!
Bob, just wanted to be sure you saw this comment about the Search page. Thanks!
Done.
